Police arrest 30 people

HEAVY police presence in Porgera has led to the arrest of more than 30 people this week.
Provincial police commander Supt Martin Lakari said they were arrested for various crimes and are locked up at the police cells in Porgera.
“They were arrested for murder, rape, drinking and other serious crimes.
“Police will get hard on such people to maintain law and order in Porgera,” Lakari said.
He said more arrests were expected.
“Mt Hagen-based police Mobile squad 05 is supporting their colleagues in Enga.” He said police in Porgera were doing their best to stop crime from
increasing.
“I want to warn the public and others to stop their illegal activities because.
“The law is in place and I do not know what is wrong,” he said.

Lakari said in the last few weeks, many lives had been lost and properties destroyed.
He also thanked the police personnel and community leaders in Porgera who had worked hard to arrest the 30 suspects.
