THE St Joseph’s International Catholic College will host its annual rugby union festival which will see students participate in 15s and sevens games at Bava Park tomorrow.
Papua New Guinea Rugby Union chief executive Sailosi Druma launched the festival yesterday.
Members of national sevens teams, the PNG Palais (women) and Pukpuks (men), attended the launch.
Druma told the students that rugby union could create opportunities if they wanted to participate in the sport.
“Well done to the teachers and staff of St Joseph’s for organising the festival,” he said.
“We look forward to seeing the students enjoy rugby union on Friday and I know it’s going to be fun.
“Some of the players in our current Pukpuks and Palais have been to St Joseph’s and have been participating in this festival before becoming representative players.
“You students can be like them in the future, you could represent your country in rugby union one day. This sport presents a lot of opportunities, so if you continue to play rugby union, you can benefit from it.
“I’m encouraging you to play rugby union if you are interested because it’s a great sport,” Druma said.
The festival will see students compete in their respective divisions, from grades seven to 12.
