Final adjournment of armed robbery case

THE Lae Committal Court allowed a final adjournment of a case in which three men are charged with armed robbery.
Senior Magistrate Pious Tapil, on Friday, said the trio had been in custody for more than four months.
He allowed the final adjournment after one of the defendants said they had been in custody for long enough and that the police should have completed their investigations.
However, Tapil considered a letter tendered in court by the prosecution from the arresting officer who asked that the court allowed an adjournment for police to complete its hand-up brief.
Magistrate Tapil told Jessy Bonny, 29, from Gegerobi village, Angoram in East Sepik, Jolden Ate, 20, from Maramba, Angoram in East Sepik and Lofty Walis, 19, from Saba, Huon Gulf in Morobe, that this would be the last adjournment.
He adjourned to Jan 7.
The trio had been in custody in Buimo Prison since Sept 15.
The three are alleged to have on Aug 27 at Voco Point beach front between 3.30pm and 4pm, armed with homemade guns and knives robbed a woman.
The woman was stabbed on the left shoulder during the robbery.
They relieved her of K11,850, two mobile phones worth K350, a fuel and bank cards.
The court heard that the trio allegedly fired four shots to disperse the public and were trying to make their getaway by sea on boat but the engine failed.
The trio jumped off the boat and were trying to swim away when police arrested them.
Police also told the court that loot was never recovered.
