35 arrested for misdeeds over Xmas weekend

THIRTY-FIVE men have been fined K1,000 each and six jailed for a year by the Wabag District Court in Enga for various offences over the Christmas weekend, Enga police say.
“All the men were detained during the start of the Christmas and New Year operations in Wabag,” Enga commander acting Supt Ephenes Nili said.
“Many were found to be drunk and disorderly in public, in possession of homebrew and in possession of bush knives.”
Acting Supt Nili said the men appeared in court on Tuesday. He thanked police and soldiers who worked together and are still working together for the New Year.
“The efforts by the men and women on the ground during the festive period operations deserve to be applauded because they have worked hard to ensure the safety of everyone, specially during the Christmas period,” Acting Supt Nili said.
Acting Supt Nili said the 35 were picked up from various locations along the highway into Wabag town.
