Finance Minister to present Bills today to amend Acts

IN a first for Parliament, the session continues today with Bills to amend the Public Management Act (1995) and District Development Authority Act (2014) to be presented by Finance Minister Sir John Pundari.
On Friday, Prime Minister James Marape asked for an adjournment after grievance debate to allow the Bills to be presented before Parliament rose.
Parliament clerk Kala Aufa said in giving the notice for both Bills, the intention was to amend the Public Management Act of 1995 to manage the financing of national procurement in relation to provincial and local level governments and to amend the District Development Authority Act of 2014 to align the procurement taken by the DDAs to the National Procurement Act of 2018 and to further allow for the management of public finances.
Parliament will also see several notices, papers and ministerial statements to be presented today.
Point of orders by National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop and Moresby North-East MP John Kaupa failed to stop the adjournment of Parliament to today.
In a week of Parliament, the drug Propofol was a topic discussed with several questions raised.
Parliament was told of four alleged deaths by Sir Puka Temu with questions raised to whether the Public Accounts Committee (Pac) could sit and investigate the deaths.
However, Speaker Job Pomat told Parliament that the investigations may not be within the jurisdiction of the PAC.
