Financial institutions should be lenient

Letters

PUBLIC servants who have taken loans from commercial banks and licensed financial institutions have the compulsory commitment to repay their loans as usual prior to the coronavirus pandemic.
They have been in and out of the loaning establishments for sometime and are knowledgeable in dealing with loans and repayments.
Bank South Pacific has come up with new strategies to deal with loan settlements for three months.
This is a sign of relief and confidence in its clients/customers.
Such strategies is inspiring and relief to BSP’s clientele at this time when the lockdown is affecting many services.
It is also good if other financial institutions fall in line during this period so that their clients may have appropriate finances to meet expenditures related to the plague.
As clients we do not have that right to direct organisations to make verdicts in favour of debtors but the coronavirus pandemic has forced the Government to lay out such instructions.
This is our country and your business endurance depends very much on the people of this nation.
Coronavirus pandemic is not only the Government’s business.
It requires everyone’s effort.

  • If BSP can follow Government directive to relieve customer for 3 months grace period, why NOT Westpac Bank and Kina Bank do the same. Did the regulator BPNG issued a circular directive in PS 15/20 loan provision and interest suspension.

  • What are BSP’s strategies on loan relief for the 3 months period – i’m still repaying a loan even after the government announced for finanical institutions to be lenient on its clients.

    • Me too! I am still repaying my debt with BSP…so much for being announcing on media of delaying 3 month debt/laon! :/
