THE people have been advised to visit their nearest fire station and learn more about fire safety.
PNG Fire Service operations deputy chief Lua Roa said the awareness would continue for a week from today at communities, workplaces and primary schools in Port Moresby.
The message will be on fire safety practices as well as to educate members of the public when facing a fire and how to react towards it.
The fire fighters will also be on hand to showcase different types of fire-fighting and rescue equipment kept in fire stations.
The fire stations to visit are Down Town Fire Station, Boroko, Waigani, Gerehu, Popondetta Fire Station, Alotau, Lae, Mt Hagen, Goroka, Madang, Wewak, Kokopo, Kavieng and Kimbe.
Roa said their equipment was outdated but these were the only ones they had because of financial difficulties.
During blackouts and low water pressure, “keep homes safe from any dangers, especially in Port Moresby”.
“When the power is coming back from hours of blackout, it goes with high current and it can cause fire to any open and faulty switches,” he said.
