Fire Service wants stations in provinces to save assets

THE PAPUA New Guinea Fire Service is initiating discussions to establish core partners with each province that has no fire station.
Acting chief executive Bill Roo said the purpose of the discussion was to establish connection with each provincial administrator to pave the way to secure land and funding for the establishment of new fire stations.
“We noticed that there is a need for every province to have a fire station due to the growth in the building industry within the cities and towns.
“The responsibility to protect the building assets and lives of occupants from fire disasters is the fire service’s paramount concern,” Roo said.
“Our visit to Vanimo in West Sepik upon the invitation of the provincial administrator, Conred Tilau, was successful.
“The administration has secured about three hectares of land for the PNG Fire Service to build its new fire station.
“We have signed a memorandum of understanding with Simbu Governor Michael Dua a while ago and the progress is getting better.”
He said they also had a formal discussion with Enga Governor Sir Peter Ipatas and his response was that Wabag certainly needed a fire station.
Roo said after discussions with each governor or provincial administrator, they came up with a MoU for land securing and funding of a new fire station.
The Manus administration has also released a piece of land to the PNG Fire Service.
