EFFICIENT power supply and the availability of quality internet services are some of the challenges faced by the International Container Terminal Services Inc (ICTSI) in the past three years, says an official.
Managing director George Gware said in a world of advanced technology, reliability in power supply and internet services were of paramount importance.
He said an efficient power supply was one of the components that helped push the economy forward.
“At Lae, the industrial hub of the country, we cannot be constantly subjected to power disruptions,” he said.
“Reliable power and water supply are needed every day and the government needs to address these concerns which are issues facing industries in Lae now.”
The company has managed to train a lot of young talents.
“At the ICTSI terminal at Lae Port, the majority of the roles usually filled by expatriates have been localised now,” Gware said.
On Swire Shipping’s new vessel which arrived at Lae Port on Monday, Gware said it showed the confidence that Swire Shipping had in the country.
“It falls in line with the initiative by the Government to modernise sea ports in the country,” Gware said.
He said PNG Ports and ICTSI would ensure they provided operation capacity and that terminal operations be modernised to accept bigger vessels.
“This shows a positive step forward for the country as these big vessels has the capacity to offer huge impacts in the export and imports for the country,” he said.
