Businesses raise concern over roads

BUSINESSES in Goroka town are concerned about the poor condition of roads, according to the Goroka Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
President Chris Anders said concrete was being used to patch potholes.
“The town manager advised the chamber that he wanted to tar-seal all the town roads but it was impossible because of financial constraints. At this point, concrete is his only option,” he said.
Anders said traffic congestion, the breach of the traffic rules and heavy vehicles were also of concern.
“Buses park anywhere blocking traffic, especially at the hospital road intersection,” he said.
“It was also suggested that vehicles of a certain weight should be allowed to enter the town as used to be the case.
“Police need to enforce the road rules. Taxis should have a designated area and not cruise around looking for business.”
