Firm focus to provide jobs for youths

Local food processing company Niugini Food Processors is focused on helping unemployed youths and subsistence farming families in Eastern Highlands, says director Mathew Jim Liu.
He said his company aimed to create jobs for youths and provide income for farmers.
“Creating sustainable employment to rural farmers, alleviating poverty and creating economic wealth by nurturing financial benefits to individuals, groups, associations, districts, province and the country as whole is our main vision,” Liu said. The company has engaged youths to buy local vegetables like lemon, tamarillo and ginger.
Team leader of the youths Neor Lute thanked Liu and his company for engaging them.
“We are paying the highest price to growers at this point in time.
“We are competing with two to three other local wine companies.”
Liu said their products, wine made from locally-grown fruits, traded under brand name ‘Lezate’.
He said they had ginger, mango and tamarillo wine currently selling in two-litre and 375ml bottles.
Liu said these first three products were certified under European wine standards at the University of Technology’s food and beverages analysis laboratory in Lae.
