EVERY equipment at the Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) are critical for patient care and must be looked after by the staff and anyone that visits the hospital, a doctor says.
PMGH director of medical service Dr Kone Sobi said following the damage of a monitor towards the end of last year, the hospital was fortunate to be presented with three new monitors.
Wang Dee Lawyers donated one of the monitors while Sir Brian Bell Foundation donated the other two.
Sobi said the monitors were donated after an incident where an intoxicated patient broke one of the monitors late last year that left the hospital handicapped with one mobile monitor to attend to more than 100 patients daily.
“The pressure here at PMGH was huge and these three new machines now will assist our staff,” he said. “The monitors simplify the work of the doctors and nurses by monitoring the patients’ vitals such as body temperature, pulse rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate and more.”
“The emergency department is always busy with high number of patients and will be daunting to do these checks manually.
“Most importantly, having the new monitors would boost the morale of the health workers here.” According to a quote received by the hospital last year, the cost of getting another one was around K25,000.
Sobi thanked the Sir Brian Bell Foundation and Wang Dee Lawyers for buying the equipment and delivering them to the hospital.
He called on the staff, patients, guardians and visitors to respect the hospital’s properties.
He also urged people to take care of the hospital equipment.
