Firm funds building of child healthcare unit

A COMPANY is funding the construction of a maternal and child health care unit at Kaugere in Port Moresby.
Islands Petroleum Ltd retail and accounts manager Bruce Mallar handed over K52,000 to the Kaugere Clinic last week.
Mallar said they selected the clinic last year as the organisation they were going to assist.
“We are trying to make sure that the clinic is conducive for mothers and children to get treatment.”
Mallar said the clinic served almost 60 per cent of the people living in Moresby South and other electorates and that was why the company stepped in to help.
A 40-foot container will be renovated to house the new unit. The money will also be used to buy a solar-power system for a tuberculosis laboratory.
Dr Patrick Koliwan, who is in charge of the clinic, thanked the company for the donation.
“We are very proud to be associated with the Kaugere clinic,” he said.
He said health was important and everyone should try as much as possible to stay healthy and be conscious of what they eat.
“You may have money, car and everything but if your health is not right you are in trouble”, he said.
