A LOGISTICS company has revealed that only one batch out of the three annual supply of medicines and pharmaceutical drugs was delivered this year, last month.
South Pacific Pharmaceutical (the company contracted by the Health Department to supply the 100 per cent medical kits in the Highlands region) managing director Philip Tukuyawani told the PAC inquiry yesterday that for this year, he had delivered only the first batch of supplies.
“In a year, we are supposed to deliver three batches of supplies. However, for this year, we did not deliver any supplies till October,” he said.
“So I don’t know when the second and third batches will be delivered but once we have it, then we will deliver it,” he said.
Tukuyawani said many times logistic companies were blamed for delays in delivering supplies and therefore causing shortages.
“However, the delay is not from our end. When medicines arrive late, it also delays us.”
He alluded to the procurement company being late in delivering supplies and that was why there was a delay in distributing and supplying medicines.
