BUSINESS owners in Mendi have been asked to beautify the town by repainting their buldings.
Mendi-Munihu MP Michael Nali said work was underway to patch potholes and beautify the town.
He urged business owners to help.
“It looks ugly and is giving a bad image. If we repaint the stores and keep our town clean, such little actions will help change the mindset of many people,” he said.
“This is our only town and we have to have pride and make it look beautiful. It will not be expensive to recoat.”
Nali bought two tractors for the Mendi town authority recently. One will be used in town and the other at Tente New Town.
He said the reason for purchasing the tractors was because of the misuse of vehicles.
“When the Mendi-Munihu district development authority purchases a dump truck, it will be used to load pigs and transport family members,” he said.
“I know many people will question why tractors were purchased instead of dump trucks.
“My answer is simple. It must be used for one particular job only – collecting garbage.”
After the torching down of the Mendi public toilet, the Momei Oval grandstand has been used as a public toilet after the fencing was removed by people.
“Police have a duty to perform and that is to move around the town in the night to prevent people from destroying public facilities. I will support police work and they have to do their job,” he said.
He said he would rebuild the grandstand and the fences.
