MAYUR Resources Ltd (MRL) says it has completed the first phase of its resource upgrade and extension drilling programme at its Depot Creek Coal Project in Gulf.
MRL said the programme included completion of 45 shallow backpack rig holes reaching depths of up to nine metres to test and confirm seam continuity across the deposit.
The field work also included collection of 14 channel samples at various outcropping seams.
All coal samples, including the drill core, were delivered to ALS (Australian Laboratory Services) in Brisbane, Australia, for laboratory testing and quality analysis.
According to MRL, Depot Creek is an important cog of Mayur’s nation building agenda in Papua New Guinea with the coal to be used at the company’s proposed 52.5 megawatt Enviro Energy Park (EEP) in Lae.
Any coal produced that was not required for domestic consumption could also be used as a fuel source for their Central Cement and Lime Project or potentially exported.
Mayur proposed to install a modified boiler at the Lae EEP that would enable substitution of up to 50 per cent of the coal with locally grown biomass that would substantially lower emissions.
