FIVE former graduates of the Catholic-run Caritas Technical Secondary School will leave for South Korea next month to undergo eight- months training.

According to the school’s director, Sr Florentina Cho, the school started taking part in the programme after having joined it in 2014.

“PNG, represented by Caritas Technical Secondary, is the eleventh country to join the programme after it was established back in 2000 and was sponsored by Seoul Metro Government,” Cho said.

“As part of the programme, students who take part undergo training in various courses including cooking and cosmetics.”

She said in March last year, four of their former students travelled to South Korea as part of the programme.

“Currently these five students are taking up basic Korean language classes to understand and learn the basics of the Korean language.”

The students’ Korean language instructor Shannan Paison said she was teaching them the basics so that when they go there they will be able to grasp the language quickly.

“While there, they will undergo Korean language classes but they are learning the basics to help them understand better because they will be taught in Korean and not in English,” Paison said.

“I will teach them until they leave for South Korea next month,” she said.

Paison was in the group that went there last year.

Caritas Secondary, like the Don Bosco Technical School, provides a second chance for students who could find space to further their education in tertiary institutions, including universities.
