THE National Capital District, Manus, East New Britain, West New Britain and Morobe are confirmed to compete at the National Hockey Championships in Port Moresby next month.
PNG Hockey Federation president Kaluwin Potuan said the five provinces showed their interest after competing at the PNG Games in Kimbe last year.
“It will be good for the players to experience what it’s like to play in a world-class hockey pavilion,” Potuan said.
Manus will be sending one men’s and one women’s team. East New Britain will send one men’s and one women’s team.
West New Britain will send three teams —two men’s sides and one women’s.
Lae will send one men’s and one women’s team.
Port Moresby will field two men’s and two women’s sides.
The hosts will also field teams for their U21 men and women.
Potuan said all technical officials would be selected from Port Moresby due to travel costs, with Raymond Lapun to be the tournament manager. “Coaches and team managers must attend a brief on Sept 13, before the tournament runs from Sept 14-17,” Potuan said.
“Accommodation will be at Waigani’s In-service College, Gordon Secondary School and private residences.”
