HEAVY rain that started on Saturday has caused destruction to roads and bridges in parts of the Watut local level government area in Bulolo, Morobe.
Floods washed away some bridges and damaged parts of roads leading into Bulolo, Watut, Aseki and Menyamya.
The events have caused difficulties for the travelling public and school children in some areas.
Some children have not attended classes this week.
Community leader and coffee farmer in Watut LLG Bonny Namson told The National that some people were stranded after some creeks, including the Napeni creek, burst their banks.
“The Napeni creek bridge was damaged about 20 years ago and has not been built to date and when it burst its banks, people were totally cut off,” Namson said.
“PMVs travelling from Aseki and Menyamya heading to Bulolo and Lae have been bogged down at the Apayato-Gumi junction since Monday
“This part of the district is a major coffee producer in the province and this has caused us much in terms of transporting this produce and others to markets.”
