FLOWER farmers are being encouraged to grow anthuriums because of their value on the market.
Papua New Guinea Cut Flower Association secretary Lynn Lantaca yesterday said members were preparing to go on a study tour to Fiji from Oct 7-14.
Lantaca said although the association was based in the National Capital District, members from around the country were going to Fiji.
The study there will look specifically at anthuriums because of its demand internationally for indoor and outdoor use.
“More individuals are taking much interest in this plant,” Lantaca said.
“It is significant because of its long vase life, can bloom for a month if kept in a vase indoor unlike other flowers such as roses or lillies that die in a week or two.
“It can flourish for months on end and it’s easy to manage as well as arrange providing a practical choice.
“Its colours are not limited to one.
“Though red is one of the most common, you can expect different colours that will suit the occasion and the venue and by combining it with other exotic plants and flowers, you can make a limitless number of arrangements and decorations,” Lantaca said.
