SIR John Dawanicura has set his sights on improving dialogue between national federations following his re-election for a third and final term as Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee president.
He told The National that the newly-appoint board would focus more on assisting federations achieve their goals. I am most grateful for the opportunity to complete my third and final term, and thank you to those who voted for me,” Sir John said.
“For the federations, this will be discussed by the board after the orientation and induction of our new members.
“But as I have stated recently, there will be more focus on them within our financial capacity.
“The board’s support will be based on good corporate governance and best practices.
“We have a loyal and competent secretariat under the leadership of secretary-general Auvita Rapilla who manages the daily operations of our organisation based on trust and respect to achieve our goals and objective, without interference from the board.”
Sir John said the Covid-19 pandemic had affected all sports but he remained upbeat about PNG’s preparations for the Tokyo Olympic Games, which were deferred to next year.
“Everything has been postponed due to Covid-19, including the Olympic Games and some of our Oceania events and our fundraising events such as the Trukai Fun Run and Prime Minister’s Golf Challenge,” he said.
