A SENIOR police officer in Bougainville is calling on locals to follow procedures when addressing issues.

He was commenting on an incident where some youths damaged two Autonomous Bougainville Government vehicles in Buka on Tuesday.

Assistant Police Commissioner Francis Tokura told The National that such actions were illegal.

Tokura said the youths were reportedly upset over outstanding payments of service they had provided.

He said the region was preparing for the proposed referendum period and needed a stable and peaceful environment.

“There are procedures that can be followed and even if all avenues are exhausted, such actions must not take place,” he said.

He said in any issue concerning ABG must be addressed by the elected leaders.

Tokura called on youths to refrain from other illegal activities like setting up roadblocks.
