‘Follow proper process’

Housing and Urbanisation Minister John Kaupa is urging people who obtained titles for National Housing Corporation (NHC) properties without following proper process to have them sorted out with the corporation.
Kaupa, pictured, said a recovery exercise would be conducted soon across the country and if people were found with titles “obtained illegally” they would be evicted.
He said the proposed exercise required K6 million for joint relevant authorities to conduct it for six to eight months.
“NHC has properties in places like Tari (Hela), Kikori (Gulf), we have to visit all the centres to conduct the recovery exercise,” he said.
“NHC would be in charge of the joint exercise.
“Once cabinet approves, it will provide funding for the exercise.”
Kaupa said there were a lot of fraudulent titles and fraud activities going on within NHC.
“NHC is doing a clean-up operation, one by one,” he said.
“Some matters were submitted to fraud squad.
“Nothing is politically motivated.”
Former Moresby North-East MP Labi Amaiu is expected to appear in court this week charged with several counts of misappropriation and conspiracy involving 301 titles from NHC.
