Follow protocol, live normal life

Letters

THE infectious disease Covid-19 is an unexpected global pandemic that caught the world by surprise with its atomic effect on the human life, health system, economic and finance, political and social aspects of our human survival.
We have been caught off guard.
Countries have responded differently to control the spread of the deadly virus, saving people from death.
Death tolls in Italy and Spain were higher than in Japan and South Korea.
This, unfortunately, has generated reactions from ordinary Papua New Guineans to wrongly use their Christian faith in condemnation of Italy and Spain, instead of understanding why these countries were hit hard with high numbers of deaths.
Japan and Korea, on the other hand, approached it differently.
They approached the Covid-19 fight by isolating people and lockdown on the movement of people.
That is why they’ve saved many lives.
PNG is not immune to the Covid-19.
So far, we have eight confirmed cases where seven victims were tested negative. But when it hits our streets and villages, it will be a pandemic and that is what we need to be very careful about.
Our people should be advised to focus on gardening, fishing and hunting and live their normal life.
Tell them to not think about rice and tinned fish because this would bring them to cities and towns.
For those of us living in urban centres, we will follow the state of emergency (SOE) controller’s directives.
Keep following the SOE rules on Covid-19 and the medical advice from our health professionals.
Let’s stop spreading misinformation on Facebook.
