Follow rule to file case, police told

ARRESTING officers and police witnesses need more training on collecting and filing cases according to court procedures, says Waigani Committal Court Magistrate Alex Kalandi.
He made the statement when striking out two cases due to non-compliance of procedure.
“Arresting officers need to get more training on that,” Kalandi said.
“So many cases have been struck out just because police have not prepared their files according to procedure.”
One of the cases involved a woman, Rosa Kamare, 44, from East Sepik, who allegedly stabbed a man who was visiting and offering some food to her child.
Another involved a man, Danny Mapu, 26, from Koroba, Hela, who was alleged to have knowingly bought a stolen vehicle belonging to the non-government organisation Medecins Sans Frontieres.
Both cases were struck out by the court because police informants had not filed statements according to procedure.
Arresting officers were also late in filing relevant documents to support the case, within the three months.
Kalandi previously struck out a case involving Kelly Mambex, 43, from Buang Morobe, who was alleged to have sexually abused a seven-year-old girl on several occasions.
He struck out this case on grounds of non-compliance because police had not been doing what they should have done.
