NATHAN Fong beat Ong Beng Huat 5-2 in the final of the 2013 BSP Port Moresby Open last week in a close affair despite the winning margin.
Ong won the first frame and looked to be in command throughout the encounter but Fong clawed his way back with some good, safe and accurate potting.
Fong had earlier beaten hot favourite, Djorne Fong in the last 16 and had a close semi-final battle with Arua Simoi.
Ong played extremely well to beat Geua John in the semi-final, while accounting for Phil Magic 3-1 in the quarter-finals.
Other notable players to be eliminated early were Peter Fong, Roger Ng and veteran Ken Leo.
The highest break award went to most improved player Joseph Ng, who compiled a 48 break.
In the plate division, Sean McCarthy beat Robin Charles 2-1 in the final to seal a tremendous weekend of snooker. The tournament was played at the Car Club.
