THE Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) has initiated a mentoring programme for coaches and elite players to meet international standards by improving their skills and techniques.
Last week, the Morobe Football Association hosted the Youth and Grassroots Coaching course to teach the basics of professional coaching through theory and practical sessions.
PNGFA said in a statement that participants underwent drills, and learnt tactical and technical skills.
More than 30 participants from Madang, Lae and Goroka attended the course, which will enable them to further develop the sport in the country using their knowledge.
The course is designed to help local coaches from each member association to meet the requirements needed to advance to C-licence.
The programme is an introductory course conducted by the Ocean Football Confederation’s member association to provide the region with the number of coaches required at the grassroots level.
It is designed to develop a basic understanding of safe, ethical coaching to provide locals with practical ideas for training sessions for players at the grassroots and youth levels.
Participants who attended the workshop gained knowledge to organise, direct and conduct basic coaching practices.
With the establishment of the Education Centre in the country and with the help from the confederation’s vision of developing its technical staffs, young talented players will now be enhanced with the quality skills to be competitive in the international scene.
