PAPUA Football Association (PNGFA) president John Kapi Natto has welcomed the revival of the national club championships after a long absence in the country.
He said the staging of the championships in Port Moresby over the Independence weekend was an important step in developing the sport in the country.
“I think PNG football is on the right path,” he said at the final on Sunday.
“Forget about criticism and backchat.
“Let’s get football moving forward.
“Respect and discipline are paramount to success in any organisation and football clubs are no different.
“If you lack them, then you’re out of my team.
“I need respect and discipline from everyone and then we’ll see football having a bright future.
“All these children here want to be like you playing on the football field.
“Let’s set an example for them and they will aspire to be good footballers.”
He congratulated the local organising committee (National Capital District Public Servants Soccer Association) for a successful three-day tournament.
Meanwhile, Kapi Natto thanked participating clubs and their respective associations for taking part and he encouraged them to keep lifting their standards.
