NATIONAL Capital District Governor Powes Parkop says the K6 million footbridge being constructed on Waigani Drive will be completed by April 2016.

The bridge, with coffee shops and other mini shops on it, will link the new city hall building and Vision City mall premises The progress is looking good since the groundbreaking on July 15 by spearheaded by Parkop, city manager Leslie Alu, Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko and contractor Phoenix Builders Ltd.

Parkop said it’s on schedule and expected to be completed early next year. The six-meter high bridge has taken shape and has reached the fence of Vision City mall premises.

“We initially thought it would be a good idea to link the bridge to the first floor of Vision City,” Parkop told The National.

But, he reiterated that the management of Vision City has not yet agreed to the proposal.

“We will build it to their fence for now but it can be extended later.”
