NATIONAL Capital District Governor Powes Parkop and SP Brewery have supported a “Carols by Candlelight: charity to be hosted by Hospital Poroman Foundation on Christmas Eve

Parkop presented K50,000 on behalf of the city residents yesterday to the foundation for its “Carols by Candlelight” initiative, which will take place on Dec 24 at the Murray Barracks oval.

“It’s a wonderful initiative that will be part of the Christmas programme in the city and hopefully will continuously be hosted in the future,” Parkop said.

He said Hospital Poroman Foundation was a charity organisation that raises funds mainly for hospitals and other activities related to health care across the country.

“This initiative is to support their wonderful work so that they can continue to reach out to hospitals and those people who are in sickbeds in hospitals, health centres and aid posts around the country.

“These people will know that we are thinking about them as well and this will be money well-spent to support such fundraising activities that will go for charity works.”

Parkop acknowledged SP Brewery chief executive officer Stan Joyce for not hesitating to sponsor the event initiated by the foundation.

He said SP Brewery, as a business house, did not only support in sports in the country but helped in campaigns for safe and responsible drinking. “This Christmas, we want residents in the city to come together and enjoy Christmas with the soldiers and their families at Murray Barracks.”

He said people can enjoy their pastimes in a safe and responsible manner at the “Carols by Candlelight” programme that will be hosted for city residents for the first time.

Hospital Poroman Foundation founder Janet Sios thanked Parkop for the kind support and said the gate takings would go towards charity.

SP Brewery corporate relations manager John Nilkare said the initiative was a new thing.

“We felt the timing is right as the city is changing,” Nilkare said.

“Our good governor is always innovative and we are happy to support to bring families together.

“We must take responsibility to prevent car accidents and ensure people drink responsibly,” Nilkare said.
