FOOTBRIDGES help greatly in the mobility of rural communities to access basic services, said Maprik MP Gabriel Kapris.
He was speaking to the Bupu community in the Mumeng local level government in Bulolo district, Morobe. He was invited by Bulolo MP Sam Basil to launch the 10th footbridge which cost K46,000 in the district.
A total of 10 footbridges costing K700,000 were built connecting villages with the main roads in six LLGs through the district services improvement programme funds.
The Bupu River separates Bupu One and Bupu Two villages.
It affects the mobility of 500 people to access basic services via Gurako and Mumeng station along the Bulolo highway.
Five people lost their lives while trying to cross the river.
Basil also invited the provincial deputy administrator district services Patilias Gamato to open the double classroom at Manga primary school in Buang last Thursday.
While acknowledging parents contribution towards the building that costs K31, 000, Gamato urged the parents and youths to be responsible because it will cater for the upbringing of the brighter future for their children.
