POLICE Minister Jelta Wong has warned that foreign security guards should never be allowed to carry guns in the country.
Wong said he was very angry when two children were injured during a fight between two security officers from the Philippines who were employees of a foreign firm providing security at the Boroko Foodworld in Port Moresby.
Police said the two Filipinos had an argument and started shooting at each other.
One died and the other has been charged and detained at the Boroko Police station.
The supermarket was closed on Friday. The two children were taken to hospital for treatment.
“I have instructed a full investigation into the incident as well as answers from the security company on why two of their foreign security people were carrying guns inside the shopping centre,” he said.
“The Government aims to put tougher laws on illegal weapons and is reviewing the Security Act to ensure this does not happen again.
“We have to toughen up our legislations on people coming into the country and on the issuing of gun permits to foreigners.”
