Foreigners should respect our people

Letters

FOREIGN nationals operating businesses in Papua New Guinea need to adjust to our culture, language, religion and above all, respect our people.
Last week, at 4-Mile in Port Moresby, an incident caught my attention.
A foreigner was arguing with a Papua New Guinean lady.
The argument erupted when he misunderstood his shopkeeper who happened to be from Central.
I went in to buy a bottle of water but was listening in on the argument.
The poor lady was trying to explain to her so-called boss that she went on Saturday for work.
But he ignorantly declined that and said she was absent on Saturday.
The poor lady continued to defend her side, but he was just too stubborn.
Can we do something to ensure that foreigners comply and respect our people and laws?
