Foreigners trying for ID

PNG is now faced with foreigners pretending to be Papua New Guineans and trying to register under the Civil and Identity Registry, its director-general says.
Director General PNG Civil and Identity Registry Noel Mobiha, without revealing details, told The National that a couple of cases had been referred to the fraud squad for investigation.
“Identities have changed all of a sudden and that’s when our fraud squad from the department is very important,” he said.
“We must do everything we can to work with them to ensure that these people are locked up.
“Identity is a commodity which means it can be sold and because we are building a NID database that covers the whole country, we are basically a bank of identities,”
