A BULLET was removed from the body of the late Rodha Dick last Thursday in Alotau Hospital during a post-mortem.
Detective Supt and Chief of Forensic Science Philip Rambaliku told The National that a bullet had been removed from the right side of the victim’s torso and brought back to Port Moresby for police to carry out ballistic tests to determine what type of bullet it was and the gun it was fired from.
“The bullet was removed successfully by Dr Philip Golpak and no other objects but the bullet was found.
“A ballistic test will be carried out by officers at the forensics office to determine what type of firearm the bullet was discharged from,” Rambaliku said.
Rambaliku and Golpak went to Alotau to carry out the post-mortem.
The deceased’s son, Napolean Saevaru told The National that after the removal of the bullet from his mother’s body, the family was ready bury her.
He thanked the police and the doctors for their efforts in proceeding with a second post-mortem after pleas by his family following the death of his mother last December.
Dick was alledgedly shot by the police at her family home at Suau Compound in Alotau on Dec 6 last year when they (police) went in search of criminal Tommy Baker and his gang after they had attempted to rob a shop and escaped on foot through the Kivata Compound.
The deceased’s family was not satisfied with the first post-mortem and requested a second one but had to wait eight months.
