PAPUA New Guinea is in a position to provide fresh organic food to China, Chinese Ambassador Xu Bing says.
He said this during the opening of the K20 million four-storey Fresh Produce Development Agency Haus, built by Chinese company Guandong Foreign Construction Company, in Goroka on Friday.
“China has a large population, we need food. We need more food, we need better food. PNG is in a position to provide,” Bing said.
Bing said he hoped that one day he could find good bananas, papaya, coffee, cocoa and other fresh produce from PNG sold in China.
He said the contractor was a “very prominent” Chinese state-owned-enterprise, which had also built student dormitories at the University of Goroka and was now building the Enga Hospital.
“The Chinese Embassy has always encouraged Chinese companies operating in this country to be good corporate citizens, abide by the rules and regulations, respect local customs and share responsibilities,” Bing said.
“I would like to thank the PNG Government for accepting and choosing Chinese companies to undertake business in this country.”
