PAPUA New Guinea Forest Authority (PNGFA) now has a landowner awareness package (LAP) toolkit to implement its Operation Painim Graun na Planim Diwai programme.
The toolkit was presented to PNGFA acting managing director Tunou Sabuin by Pacific Island project managing director Simon Rollinson.
Sabuin said the toolkit would enable to deliver message to the people.
“It’s (LAP) very important as this is the foundation that we wanted to build because everything else that will happen and move this project in the long term depends very much on the awareness,” he said.
“Of course we have experienced a lot of awareness in a small way.”
He said the awareness toolkit would now align all these to have a consistent flow of information to people.
“The same information will be received by all who are interested to plant trees for today and future generations of PNG,” he said.
The information will include “How PNGFA, with development partners can assist them to improve in the way they do things, how they plant trees, the right trees to be planted, suitable land to plant trees on and etc,” he said.
The toolkit contains a video, audio for radio stations as well as information leaflets. All the awareness materials contained questions and answers that those already planting trees or interested to plant trees might have.
The awareness toolkit also contains an interview form which PNGFA officers could access through their mobile phones, tablets and laptops, when in the field.
