A US-based businesswoman is encouraging local businesswomen to use innovation and creativity to grow their businesses.
Dawn Porter, a lawyer and documentary film maker, is in the country as part of the American film showcase programme supporting the US Embassy by empowering women, addressing gender-based violence and keeping girls in schools.
She spoke to local business women yesterday at the Women in Business Resource Centre in Port Moresby on how entrepreneurs can use innovation and creativity to grow their businesses’ in the community and play a vital role in the economy of the country.
“When you become entrepreneurs and establish your business, you will become part of the economic engine in the country -getting all that creativity and energy and putting into your business and watch it grows,” Porter said.
“All of your skills that you are serving other people with, is not selfish. You will see that you are inspiring other women.
“I went from a lawyer to a journalist to becoming a film director. It is not something that I wanted, that I dreamed of when I was small, but I realised I didn’t see stories that matter to the struggles that people face each day so I decided to film it. I created a business out from it.”
