FORMER national lightweight champion and coach Ricky Berua is suffering from a heart disease and needs K45,000 for further treatment.
Berua, 54, from Abau, Central, started his amateur boxing career in 1985 when he was 19.
He reached his peak in 2000 when won the national lightweight title. In 2003, Berua retired from boxing and took up coaching in boxing associations in the city.
In 2011, he coached the national boxing team who competed at the Youth Commonwealth Games in the Isle of Man, United Kingdom (UK).
After returning from the UK, Berua founded the Abau Boxing Association of which he is the president.
He has trained a lot of amateur boxers, including 2015 Pacific Games gold medallists Tom Boga and Henry Uming.
“I was diagnosed with coronary artery disease at the Port Moresby General Hospital in 2005,” Berua said.
“Early this year, my condition worsened and I was diagnosed with Wellens’ syndrome.
“Now, I am on medication.
“The doctors said I would need K45,000 to undergo percutaneous coronary intervention at Pacific International Hospital.
“After that, I will need regular reviews.”
Those willing to assist Berua can contact him on 76021137 or 72680868.
