Lahanis primed

THE Goroka Lahanis will aim to bounce back from last week’s 10-22 loss to the Mendi Muruks when they face hosts Port Moresby Vipers tomorrow (1pm kick-off).
Coach Michael Moses told The National yesterday they were confident of a positive result at Sir John Guise Stadium after working on their weaknesses from the opening Digicel Cup round.
Moses said Lahanis flyer Brandon Nima, recruited from the SP Hunters, was primed for a showdown against former Papua New Guinea Kumuls star Thompson Teteh in the centres.
“We were so slow around the ruck last week,” he said.
“Our defence was poor.
“Our lines speed was below par, there was no coordination.
“We only concentrated on our attack and our biggest letdown was in defence.
“The Muruks hooker was clever and they were quick in the ruck, so that got us on the back foot for most of the game.
“We’ve worked on this area all week and we’ll aim up against the Vipers.
“We know the Vipers have some big names in the team.
“One notable one is Teteh who will face Nima in the centres so we’re looking forward to seeing who comes out on top.
“We’re counting on the experience of forwards Gonzella Urakusie, Kumani Agumagu and young Jacob Gibbs
“Our backline is pretty much the same from last weekend, with Nicky Hasu and Joseph Karara to lead the side.”
Moses said they were looking to avoid consecutive defeats to start the season.

  • Michael Moses…. Please look at some of the former Lahani Players you have dropped from the squad this year. Players like Alma Woro is one of the notable omissions from the squard who has all the material ingredients for the Hunters spot. Please call this guy back on training and give him a fair go again. Recruit the players, nourish them, train them, guide them, and feed them well. They are the pride of our province
