A FORMER policeman is calling on the Government to implement the Guns Summit Report regarding the death penalty to address gun-related killings in the country.
Donnol Mandai from Wabag in Enga said so many illegal weapons were being circulated and causing deaths.
He said the weapons posed a big threat to resource developers in the country.
Mandai said those with illegal firearms had a no-care attitude towards anyone including MPs, police, soldiers, public servants and people from different walks of life.
He condemned the attack on the two policemen from Mount Hagen on Sunday night in Porgera.
He said policemen and women were used as sacrificial lambs by the police department and government by sending them into tribal fighting zones.
“Government must implement the Guns Summit Report led by former PNGDF Commander Jerry Singirok and his team,” he said.
He said laws on gun in the country were outdated and needed to tougher.
“Government must implement the death penalty and start executing those on death row,” he said.
He said people no longer had respect for the law and law-enforcement agencies.
“Government must make people fear the law and respect law enforcers like police, otherwise the current law and order situation in the country will go out of hand,” he said.
Mandai said the Government should make hard decision to change the mindsets of people and address gun-related problems.
