FORMER SP Hunters livewire Adex Wera’s injection into Goroka Lahanis’ coaching team has given them a boost for their first win, according to head coach Gonzella Urakusie.
After four-straight losses, the Lahanis sprung a 21-20 upset win over the Mendi Muruks at Port Moresby’s Oil Search National Football Stadium on Sunday.
Former Hunter Urakusie said he was thrilled with the round-five Digicel Cup win, adding that Wera’s input had improved the resilience of the Bintangor-sponsored side.
‘There has been an improvement in defence,” he said.
“It’s getting better since we brought in Wera who has been helping us with our defensive and attacking structures.
“I told them to stick to the game plan and the game plan worked well.
“The main focus for us was to complete our sets.
“The game is speeding up and the penalty count will go up against any team that doesn’t keep up.
“The six-again rule was our biggest challenge, so we’ve trained extra hard to contain the opposition.
“They were disciplined, patient and completed their sets, the Muruks were the better side coming into this game.
“But we prepared well for them and got the win.”
Urakusie also commended his halves pairing of No.7 Robin Soga and five-eighth Patrick Tarutia who got the edge over the Petroleum Resources Kutubu-sponsored Muruks.
“In terms of kicking, we haven’t really taught him (Soga),” he said.
“But he managed to kick a field goal because we had speed in attack which put the opposition on the back foot.”
