FORMER national touch representative Vavine Yore has challenged Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation to create a more conducive environment for athletes.
Now managing PNG High Performance Sport’s team sports portfolio, she had represented the country for about 15 years. Yore said having a more conducive environment would help more athletes become consistent performers and winners at the international level.
“I would like to see a more athlete-oriented approach,” she said.
“Because at the end of the day, an athlete is a human being.
“All these facilities have been built because of athletes. Since we hosted the (2015) Pacific Games, the Government funded these facilities.
“If we can look at athletes as human beings and create the most conducive environment, we will have more high-performing athletes.”
Meanwhile, Yore said her organisation was preparing athletes for the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games and 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands.
“We can’t do that on our own,” she said.
“We need everybody in the foundation to have a collaborative output towards preparing athletes to enhance their performance and secure a golden finish. At the end of the day, we are here because of the athletes.
“I’ve had my fair share of representing the country for 15 years.
“So I’m now trying to take up an administrative role to help athletes. Working together to create high-performing athletes will enable them to perform better.”
