FORMER West New Britain police commander Ben Simanjon has been jailed in Kimbe after absconding bail conditions set by the National Court in Kimbe.
Simanjon was the PPC at the time when funds relating to operations in the province went missing.
There was an investigation and Simanjon, who held the rank of superintendent, was charged with two counts of misappropriation and two counts of stealing.
He was committed on Dec 7, 2000, and was granted bail, however, while the court sitting regarding his case was on, he left the province and was alleged to have been on the run.
The National Court issued a bench warrant in May 2015.
His detainment comes after he was arrested outside the Waigani National Court premises by police officers.
Over the weekend he was repatriated back to Kimbe by NCD police.
Current West New Britain PPC John Midi said one of Simanjon’s bail conditions was that he could not leave the province but he had absconded and had been avoiding police over the last five years.
“How he was apprehended, I would not know, however, I can confirm he was brought back to the province and is now waiting his next court hearing.”
Police officers arrested Simanjon as he was getting into a vehicle.
