FOUR men in Wingei, Yangoru, East Sepik, have been arrested and charged by Wewak police and will appear in court for the murder of a man and his son and another man in June.
East Sepik police commander Supt Albert Beli said he was pleased with how local leaders assisted police in providing the information that led to the arrest of the four suspects.
He said the arrests had eased tensions along the Wingei section of the Sepik Highway and allowed traffic to flow unhindered between Maprik and Wewak.
Supt Beli said the four had been charged with one count of murder each and would appear in court when their files were ready. “Paying back and taking the lives of innocent people will not do anything good but will only create more problems,” he said.
“I want the people of East Sepik to see what the people of Wingei have done and follow it. The public should assist the police to make sure that those who cause trouble are arrested and charged.”
Meanwhile, in another incident, a man, who chopped off the finger of another man from Marengberg, was arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm by the police last week while he was in Wewak.
According to police, the attack was over a disagreement between the two men. The victim, Stanpher Kanari, was rushed to Angoram Hospital where he was treated and then transferred to Boram Hospital in Wewak.
