SOME locals from Kokopo in East New Britain are training in fashion and design for 10 weeks.
The 45 participants from four local level government (LLGs) areas in Kokopo are attending the training, six are male participants.
The four LLGs involved are Kokopo-Vunamami urban, Duke of York, Bitapaka and Raluana.
Training started on Monday and will end next Friday.
The programme is an initiative of Kokopo MP and Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Emil Tamur who is funding it and facilitated by Anna Amos, a lecturer at the University of PNG School of Creative Arts-Textile and Fashion.
Amos said the training was in line with the PNG Fashion and Design Week.
“I used to run training for the PNG Fashion and Design Week and I have it for quite sometimes.
“This training is different because it involves a national MP’s participation in the programme,” Amos said.
“Skills, knowledge and training were imparted to those who attended.”
Amos explained that the basic idea of the training was to train the participants on basic knowledge of fabric painting.
“In fabric painting, there are two fabric colour painting rations techniques which are tie dye and screen printing.”
