THE Sir Brian Bell Foundation has donated 24 cartons of Protex soap to the Buk Bilong Pikinini (BbP) learning centre at the University of Papua New Guinea to help kick start the children’s tuberculosis (TB) awareness week.
This awareness stresses the importance of health and hygiene, especially hand-washing, to prevent the spread of diseases such as TB and the recent pandemic, Covid-19.
In a media release, Sir Brian Bell Foundation chief executive officer Bronwyn Wright emphasised that it was through good hygiene and frequent hand washing that one could minimise the risk of infectious disease.
“Educating children, especially to understand what is going on around them and providing them with the best possible skills to look after themselves, is very important,” Wright said.
The BbP was grateful to the foundation for the donation and for their partnership in sharing a vital message during this critical time and also look forward to implementing mandatory hand washing.
“Our six library centres will receive a box of Protex soap each to ensure that all children can wash their hands,” BbP founder Anne-Sophie Hermann said.
