LIFELIINE PNG Foundation held a jumble sale at its North Waigani yard in Port Moresby to raise funds at the weekend.
Chairman of Lifeline PNG Foundation, Salvation Army Major Bugave Kada, said funds raised from the sale of second-hand items would go towards sustaining the foundation.
“It is very important for the foundation because we can use the money for maintenance and other expenses,” he said.
“We want to raise money to help Lifeline PNG move forward a little bit more.”
Kada said they received funds from donors such as Oxfam International, but they wanted to raise money on their own.
He said the money they received from Oxfam was used for running their programmes, paying for electricity and staff.
“The money we receive is limited because it is used only in certain areas.”
“We want to try and make money on top of what we are receiving,” Kada said.
Paula Baker, a volunteer employee who took the lead in organising the sale, said one of the reasons they did it was to inform the community about Lifeline Papua New Guinea. “It’s really about creating that awareness in the community that Lifeline is here and is out there in the community,” she said.
Organisations such as the ANZ Foundation showed their support during the sale by preparing sausage sizzles. FairPrice Furniture supported by pre paying for food.
Lifeline PNG has been operating for 46 years.
It provides counselling services as well as a safe house for women.
Lifeline also conducts awareness programmes in villages in Central and in selected schools in Port Moresby.
