A PNG Tribal Foundation director has told an international meeting that sorcery-related violence is a big problem in the country.
Foundation director Ruth Kissam said sorcery accusation-related violence was affecting the people despite the awareness conducted regarding human rights.
She was speaking at a meeting in Geneva organised by the United National Human Rights Council and the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative.
Fiji and Vanuatu were also represented.
Kissam said they had called on the Government to enforce the law in regards to sorcery accusation-related violence and to prosecute perpetrators and instigators.
She said enforcing the existing laws to prosecute would strengthen the call to create a PNG Human Rights Commission. Prime Minister Peter O’Neill had floated the idea in 2012 and 2018.
