THE National Alliance party now has four declared candidates after Joseph Sungi retained his Nuku seat in West Sepik, and Ian Ling Stuckey won in Kavieng.
Party general secretary Joyce Grant confirmed yesterday that Sungi was declared the winner with 12,313 votes.
Former Nuku MP Andrew Kumbakor was second on 8880.
Grant said Stuckey polled 8368 votes. People’s Progress Party Leader and outgoing Kavieng MP Ben Micah was second on 7,713.
Sungi and Stuckey now join party president Walter Schnaubelt (Namatanai) and Timothy Masiu (South Bougainville) as the four NA declared candidates.
“We should have 10 declared candidates by the end of the weekend. We now have seven candidates leading in their respective seats,” Grant said.
Meanwhile in Manus, members of the Joint Security Task Force have been stood down after the two seats were declared last Sunday.
Police commander David Yapu said only the mobile squad or Quick Response Unit would remain in the province.
“They will continue to provide security till the end of the month. The general election in Manus was a success and better than in previous years,” Yapu said.
“And I want to thank all the officers who committed their time to be with us, and helping us to deliver a safe and peaceful elections.”
